Paul Gauguin was born is Paris in 1848, that is a very long time ago. Paris is in Europe, the red continent on our continent globe. When he was three years old he moved with his family to Peru, which is is South America, the pink continent on the globe. When he was seventeen he was back living in Paris and worked on ships. He later married and was a business man.
Paul Gauguin liked to paint and he did this as a hobby very often. When he was older, about thirty five he decide to stop being a business man and just paint for his work. Paul Gauguin traveled down to tropical islands and spent the rest of his life. He spent some time in Tahiti where he also liked to paint beach scenes. He is considered one of leading French painters of the Post-Impressionism period. Paul spent some time with the artist Vincent Van Gogh and afterwards he decided to express his paintings with lush colors.Let’s look at some of his paintings and find out what he called them.

Need for lesson – The book, Nature’s Paintbox by Patricia Thomas
This book is wonderful! It has seasonal poems and beautiful art pictures.
Talk about what a poem is, and choose to read some from the story, at least one or two for each season. You could continue to use this book in the upcoming week to read one or two poems each day with the children. I asked the children to paint a picture of their favorite season.
