Weather Charts

Today, we talk about our Lesson Science 47, which focuses on the weather.

We have talked about the four seasons that make up a year. Ask the children the name of the seasons? During the different seasons, the weather changes. We experience different kinds of weather in different seasons. There are many kinds of weather. So, continue asking questions: What might the weather be like in the Wintertime? How about in the summer? What makes the weather? What is weather?

Let us find out more…

Weather is the condition of the atmosphere, or the air all around the earth. What is happening in the atmosphere gives us the weather we see and feel. The sun is an important factor for different kinds of weather. Due to the tilt of our planet, the sun heats up places near the equator a lot more than places near the poles. The different hot and cold regions on the earth constantly heat and cool the air around our planet (use globe and flashlight as the sun to demonstrate and point out the equator and pole areas). This causes the air to move as wind, and causes water vapor in the air to form into clouds, rain, and snow. Daily changes in the weather are due to wind and storms. Seasonal changes are due to the Earth rotating around the sun. It takes the Earth one year to travel around the sun. During that year the weather changes in different parts of the Earth.

Meteorologists are scientists that study and predict the weather. They help to inform people of what the weather will be so they can plan how to dress and be ready for the day. If a snowstorm is coming, Meteorologist inform people on the news or radio and then people can plan for the snowstorm.

It takes a lot of work to create alternative activities, and having the space on the shelves requires constant organizing and updating. I spend most evenings creating new activities, which, after many years I have stored so many I can utilize them in the classroom. I label my containers based on the week in the curriculum, for example, these items would be under Week 20, Day 3.

That said, there are too many children to all be able to focus on those activities at once, so they can choose works that they are interested at the time, Following are activities they chose for today.
