Reading Program

I have been busy reorganizing my reading program and getting it ready for the new school year. There are three reasons for me doing this. One is because the shelf space at the school I will begin working at is limited so I needed to condense the many boxes somehow. The second reason is because it will be an older group of children and I realized I may need to provide more than one set of say, sentences to work with. Some of my things are very old and so a making them again has felt great! Another reason is

because I have been doing some Dyslexia Tutoring and I wanted to incorporate some of the ideas from those lessons. I think they could prove to be helpful and enhance the reading program.

One main thing I did, was take all the phonogram boxes and make folders for them. Each folder has the pictures and two sets of word cards. One set has the phonogram highlighted in red and the other one has the words just in black. Children match red labels to pictures and then will read the black cards and spell those words.
I added some nonsense word lists
I added some nonsense word lists to be sure the children are blending each of individual sounds together properly into a word for any children that may need extra help with sound blending.
I made a set of phrases for the children to work with before they begin sentence building.

I have now added introducing these digraphs along with CK during the “Blue Series”, or four/five letter words part of the reading program. I did this because they are commonly used and are found in some of the sentences in the Blue Series, so I wanted to include them prior to children working with those sentences.

These are just some of the things I’ve changed or added to the reading program. To get a full picture of it all, I’ve updated the Language Section which can be found on the homepage of Just Montessori.
