Dental Health Month

It is that time of the year when many teachers like to include dental health lessons for the children. At times a dentist or dental hygienist visits a school to help raise awareness about the importance of oral health. With or without a visiting guest speaker, there are many fun ways to help children appreciate the importance of caring for one’s teeth.

One thing I like to have available is an x-ray of teeth. We look for the roots and crowns of teeth on the x-ray. I also like to provide a model of teeth in which children can practice ‘brushing’ and ‘flossing’. Many good books can be found at the library or online about teeth or visiting the dentist. A variety of art projects can also add to the fun while learning about oral care. I will share some pictures and more ideas can be found in Week 23 – Day 1, Week 23 – Day 3, and Week 24 – Day 1 of the curriculum pages.

This kit was a free resource found online for teachers. There are quite a few that one can find to include with classroom or homeschool lessons.
