Summer can be a fun time to have a lesson on volcanoes. The school I worked at had a spacious sandbox or sand area, so we would take our volcano making experiment outside. If your school does not have an area where you can reasonably work outside, gather sand and fill up a tub and make the volcano inside the tub.
Here are some pictures of past volcano lessons with an example of both sandbox and tub experiments.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- small empty water bottles
- vinegar
- red food coloring, and
- baking soda.
I also provided dinosaurs for the children to use as they created their volcano scenes.
